Welcome to ‘On Wings of Fury’, the chronicles of my Aeronautica Imperialis armies. 

For the time being, this log will follow the development of three AI armies: an Imperial Navy Combat Wing, a Space Marine Strike Force, and an Ork Air Waagh! 

The catalyst for these three armies can be attributed to two sources, Bommerz Over the Sulpha River and FW release of the Epic Thunderhawk (let’s be honest, it’s the only affordable option for owning a FW Thunderhawk).  After picking up the required models to play Bommerz, they sadly remained in their packaging, never to grace the table top. 

Fast forward a year or so to Games Day Baltimore ’08.  One of the gaming clubs running a table were running demo games of AI.  Intrigued by the simplicity and small number of models required, DogmaRaider and I stuck around for a demo and the rest is history, as the say.

The following color code will be used to denote the status of each model in the AI armies.
Completed and Painted models are in DARK GREEN
Models that have been assembled and ready for paint are BRIGHT GREEN
In progress models are YELLOW
Models that have been purchased but with not work done are RED
Planned or possible future purchases are GREY

Here is part of the Space Marine Strike Force.  Still figuring out which chapter I will use.  Most likely will not be one of the major chapters like the Ultramarines, Blood Angles or Dark Angels.  Think I may go back to the old Rogue Trader supplements and see what I can turn up.

First up are the 4 Whirlwind Hyperious.  I am using the metal Whirlwind Hunter models from the Epic line to represent them.  The set also includes four normal Whirlwind launchers.  Those will be used with the Epic Land Raiders to represent the Land Raider Helios.

Here is the start of the first Thunderhawk Gunship.  This is as far as the construction will go at this point until paint.  This will allow me to get into all the hidden areas that the attack wings and heavy bolters can create.

Instead of trusting the plastic flight stands to support the Thunderhawk (and all other AI models) I decided to magnetize the planes and stands.  You can see where the magnet was placed in the second picture.  I simply drilled an appropriate sized hole, stuck in three rare earth magnets glued them in place with 5-minute epoxy.  The hole was filled in with Squadrons Green Putty and filed smoother when cured.

Well, it has been a while since I updated this log. Unfortunately life has ways of getting in the way of things.....

Not too much of an update though, just a couple pics of some of the color schemes I am playing with for some of the squadrons.

Hopefully we'll see some nice weather soon and I'll be able to start priming some of the assembled models.

Does anyone have a good link or two to some warplane markings and paint schemes? My google-fu seems to suck pretty much nowadays.
